2k Games . Mafia II . PC . Ps3 . Xbox 360
It was August 28th 2002 when Mafia was released for the PC and with all the good reviews the game got, who wouldn’t want to do it again? Its now been 8 years later and Mafia II is about to be released in one week. I had to chance to try out the Mafia II demo and all though the demo was only 20 minutes long It was fun. Some things you should know is this was not a final build and there was a time limit on the city time, so I wasn’t able to explore the city to long.
The game starts off with Vito getting a phone call telling him to meet at an apartment to help with a hit on someone. Head outside, go to your garage, and grab your car of choice. Like I said earlier, you don’t have a ton of time driving the streets because of a time limit, but just like GTA you speed or hit someone, be ready for the cops to chase you. You arrive at your destination where a cut scene will start and you’ll get ready to start firing when the man your trying to kill shows up. Something that I noticed right off the bat, was the destruction of the environment. pretty much anything you shot could be destroyed. Mafia II also features a nice run and cover action and the ability to pick up weapons from enemy’s you just killed, like a Thompson machine gun and a shotgun.
Visually Mafia II looks awesome between character, lighting, and environment detail. The animations are smooth running from one position to the next, and the physics that are used when shooting items or walls look nice. You can really see the detail of contact. Also the driving detail is very real, it will take some time to get used to.
As for the music, it does a real good job of making you feel like your in the 1940 & 50’s. from Frank Sinatra to John Lee Hooker you’ll never be bored with the style and the feel of being a mobster.
Obviously I can’t give a huge synopsis because this is only a demo, but just like the first one’s success. I predict this one succeeds Mafia in sales, gameplay, and storyline. Look out for Mafia II and step into Vito Scaletta’s shoes August 24th 2010.
